March 2011

Hello!

Spring is nearly upon us, and with that Crayon are emerging from their winter hibernation with a set of gigs, an upcoming EP release and plans to head straight back to recording afterwards.

The EP is still being polished and tweaked, with artwork following closely. Expect 5 very different tracks, each with their own quirks and little details we think are great and hope you do too. No release date has been set, though you should be able to hear it before May at the latest.

Speaking of new things, we have added two brand new songs to our set for our upcoming gigs, would be great to see some familiar faces at some of these:

19th March at the Barfly in Camden

1st April headlining The Swan in Wantage, Oxon

20th April at the Wheatsheaf, Oxford

8th June at the Dublin Castle, Islington

Our new songs are called “On the Fold” and “Nothing is Where it Should be”, and will make their way to the internet later this year.

SoundCloud fans will now be able find us at www.soundcloud.com/crayonmusic. Can’t recommend SoundCloud enough, the new Myspace maybe? Only much better!

Anyway, this is all for now, more updates to follow, thanks again to everyone for your support we really appreciate it!

January 2011

Well it’s been hectic these last 6 months. People have moved house changed jobs etc, all very grown up stuff. As a result our good intentions towards releasing new recordings and writing new material have not as yet been honoured. 2011, though, we can promise will be a year of lots more shows, releases and new songs.

It will also be a year where Mike remembers to update the website a bit more often! Many thanks to Joe Banner for rescuing the site from it’s slightly dilapidated state earlier.

April update

Hope everyone is enjoying the lovely sunshine, here is a quick update from Crayonland…

We had a busy March, new songs in the set, gigs in London including the famous Barfly. The best thing about March though was coming back to Oxford after a long time waiting for slots to come up to play the Oxfringe new music competition. Whilst we did not go through to the final round of bands (one of whom would play the Bob Harris stage at Oxford’s Truck festival), we did have the best reception of any gig since so many of our friends came to see us at The Peel. Thank you to everyone who made it, it was really a good show made great by the fantastic audience.

This month sees us play a show for Daisy Rodgers promotions at the Jericho Tavern with some excellent up and coming bands; ex-Supergrass’ Charly Coombes and the New Breeds as well as Alphabet Backwards. (23rd of April, cheap tickets available up until a few days before from http://www.wegottickets.com/event/77919)

In addition, a decision was made to start recording some more tracks, so look out for those in the coming months as we get to grips with trying to find gear, good sounding rooms and the interminable process of recording itself. Hopefully we’ll still have time to rehearse, write and gig, so hopefully see you soon.
Much love
Crayon

March update from Crayon

Hello all,

This month we have learnt the Halfmoon in Putney is a lovely venue and definitely lives up to its reputation. Great night all round, lovely area of London. Our next couple of shows will be back on home ground in Oxford, firstly entering the Bob Harris music prize as part of the Oxfringe festival (31st of March at the Wheatsheaf http://www.facebook.com/#!/event.php?eid=295728493521&ref=ts), then a Daisy Rodgers promotions night on the 23rd of April at the inevitable Jericho Tavern. As is the Daisy Rodgers custom we will be putting forward a cover song for advance ticket purchasers to vote for along all the other bands. Our offer is Paul Simon’s Graceland which we will doubtless tweak a little around the Crayon indie folk sound. Tickets are yet to go on sale but we will keep you posted.
thanks for reading, see you soon !

Robin, Will, Andy, Chris and Mike

PS Many apologies to those looking forward to our slot supporting Jon Allen at the end of February, we were forced to pull out due to a decision taken by the headliner’s management regarding electric bands, we felt an acoustic set would have been too rushed and a bit of a let down for our fans. Hopefully we will get chance to play Guildford again sooner rather than later and make up for it!

Demo EP available for download

For a limited time, our demo EP is available to download from the media page. Hope you enjoy it!

Merry Christmas!
